The word “ace” has connotations of excellence wherever it is applied. A fighter ace is a pilot that’s downed at least five enemy planes. It’s a hole in one in golf. A good playing card. And a top of the line 127 camera I guess.

The ace shares its lineage with The Diana I’d bet. Made it Hong Kong and destined to be a giveaway camera or a prize in a crappy carnival. I particularly like the little “vent” on the right side of the camera. I guess that’s where the selenium cell will be installed on future Aces. Shutter speed is a guaranteed to be 1/50 more or less and the nameless lens is an f8. The camera has a “B” setting for low-light espionage work. The rewind knob fell off somewhere in Colrain MA. Should you find it I’d be willing to pay a handsome sum for its return.

While the Ace exhibits a lack of sharpness there is certainly a generous amount of bokeh associated with the lens. It brings to mind the optical experiments performed by Coca Cola in the 1950’s, doesn’t it ?
